Greetings from the Terminal Introvert

Hello.  My name is Adam and I will be your tour guide on a winding road of eccentricity, obsession, and, occasionally, recreational insomnia.

As I stated in my first post (Genesis) I started this as a way to "keep in touch" with family members.  Over the last few months it has become more of a place where I "ramble" about things.  But, I though that maybe I should share a little about myself.

Born and raised in Nebraska, I am something of a misfit.  And I say that with pride.  I don't own a single stitch of "Husker Red," nor do I really care to.  In fact, I'm not a "fanatic" about any sport.  Instead I devote my recreational time to studying military history, especially World War II and aircraft.

I recently graduated with a double major from Concordia University.  I now hold a secondary education certificate, which means I could be coming to a local high school near you.  My second major is in theology, one of the subjects I have an undying passion for.  Hence why it is one of my content areas in my teaching degree.  The other is history.  Gee, I wonder why…

As great as (finally) graduating was, the best day of my life was June 2, 2007.  On that day I stood at the front of a crowded church in a suit and tie and watched the most beautiful woman in the world walk  down the aisle towards me.  The experience of getting married was somewhat surreal, because all I remember is how I couldn't take my eyes off her, then we kissed, then tried not to run down the aisle out of excitement.  I think there may have been some dancing and cake after that, but I'm not sure.

After that my wife and I moved down to Seward where I started off in the Pre-Seminary progran  A lot has changed since then.

First I was enrolled in the Intro to Education class by my advisor, Pastor Blanco.   I though "well, pastors need to know how to teach, so, what'll it hurt."  Yeah.  By the end of first semester I was "addicted" to the idea of teaching.  I wanted, actually wanted, to stand in front of ten to thirty super-critical teenagers and try to convince them that whatever esoteric information I am trying to impart is important in their daily lives.  I found the terror of teaching to be very exhilarating.  Now I want nothing more than to teach.  Been having trouble getting into a spot as of yet, but that's a different rant, for another day.

The second big change arrived at 9:35 in the morning on March 15, 2008.  Nathanael James came into the world running, and hasn't stopped moving since.  The kid is a ball of energy, and disturbingly smart to boot.  In the five years since then, I have learned so much from him.  I get frustrated with him, even mad at him, but I love him and wouldn't have him any other way.

In the middle of student teaching came another big change: Samuel Whittaker.  Born March 7, 2012, he, like his brother, came fast and won't stop.  It's pretty amazing watching the two of them interact, and even plot.  They've both grown so much in the last year.

Lets see, what else is there?  I am an enigmatic internet thrill seeker and archeologist with a hankering for Lego to bring back classic Pirates themed sets.  I am an avid reader of multiple genres.  Especially Star Wars, which currently holds the record for "favorite fictional franchise" at 70 books.  Occasionally, I dabble in video games, but only a handful on the old PS2, and a couple on the even older Nintendo 64.  I once painted the Eiffel Tower lime green with pink and yellow polka dots as part of a bet.  I race mountain lions and raise carrier eagles.  I enjoy going on bike rides with my wife.  Though, to be fair, I like doing pretty much anything with my wife.  Even washing the dishes.

Oh, and I started a blog.  You should read it.  I'll even give you a link to it.  Its called "'In The Loop' with a Terminal Introvert."  You see, that's how I describe myself.  Anyway, here's the link: http://baumann-intheloop.blogspot.com/

Have fun.
